Manapōuri Power Station

Concrete Surface Preparation

One of our more unique projects saw us 200 metres below the surface of Lake Manapōuri, Fiordland, in an excavated rock cavern, in the machine room of Meridians Manapōuri Power Station (which is the largest hydro electric power station in New Zealand).

The crew carried out over 1700m2 of surface preparation to the concrete floor – grinding to remove the old paint, oil and contaminates from the concrete surface, leaving it clean and ready for repainting by the team at National Decorators.

Due to the underground location, nature of the power generating and electrical equipment we were working around, and scope of the project, there were extra heightened levels of Health & Safety measures, and our crew were required to obtain specific qualifications and certificates to undertake this project.
